About Quadrex

Quadrex Corporation was founded in 1976 in order to provide commercially available, high quality capillary columns to the gas chromatography market. Prior to this time, chromatographers often produced their own columns in-house due to patent locks on column technology. At that time, highly active stainless steel or fragile borosilicate capillary columns with nonbonded stationary phases and low temperature limits were the norm.


In 1980, shortly after the introduction of flexible fused silica tubing, Quadrex was the first column manufacturer to offer the now state-of-the-art fused silica columns to the GC community. Fused silica tubing eliminated a host of problems with GC columns such as fragility, installation difficulty, and surface activity. Combined with the development of bonded phase technology, the resulting columns allowed for improved surface deactivation and higher operating temperature limits.

Experience

Quadrex expertise dates back beyond the time of its founding in 1976. Quadrex’s founder, Dr. S.R. Lipsky, had been investigating gas chromatography instrumentation and column technologies since the early 1960s. After the 1960 Golay patent (U.S. Patent #2920478, assigned to Perkin Elmer) on capillary columns expired in 1975, the market finally opened to commercially available GC capillary columns.


Since 1976, Quadrex has honed and applied its 40+ years of technical expertise to its manufacturing processes and has produced thousands of capillary columns for chromatographers around the world.

Quadrex quality extends from its experience. Quadrex takes pride in its manufacturing technology and the ability to offer a quality product. Quality control takes place at every stage of production and every column goes through extensive testing prior to leaving Quadrex's door. The GC column market is highly competitive, Quadrex's longevity in this market is a testament to the quality it puts into each of its columns.

Service

Quadrex is still privately owned and is now under second generation management. Quadrex cares about its product quality and pride itself on personalized customer service. Every customer is important to Quadrex and it treats you as if you are its only customer. Think of it as the service you’d receive walking into your local hardware store compared to a big box store or sitting in your local pub “where everyone knows your name” instead of a big chain restaurant.

Flexibility

The fused silica tubing that is used to manufacture today’s state-of-the-art GC columns comes in a variety of industry-standard internal diameters. All column manufacturers offer a multitude of standard column configurations to meet many common GC applications. In addition, Quadrex will produce columns in any length and any film thickness (within the given limits of the particular stationary phase).
